The players on the Fuzzies and the Red Claws have numbers that correspond to numbers of actual players from baseball history. Sometimes the connection is obvious (Jackie Rabbitson is number 42, obviously in honor of Jackie Robinson) but sometimes the connection is obscure, or even random. Sometimes the actual player and the character play the same position, but most often not. Most of the players are Hall of Famers, but a few are not. Only one player is still active. Sometimes they were players that I loved growing up, so I wanted to pay homage by including their numbers somewhere (even if it was on an annoying hyena, or on a timid wombat). The personalities of the Fuzzies and Red Claws characters in no way reflect the personalities of the real life players that their numbers correspond to. Monks McGillicuty, number 24, is rude and egotistical, but the real-life number 24 is a gem of a human being.
Here is a list of the characters and their numbers, and the real life players that the numbers correspond to.
